Welcome to The Tuke Centre

The Tuke Centre provides a high quality Counselling, Psychotherapy, Psychology and Psychiatry service at an affordable price and has a specialist resource for the training and professional development of people working in the mental health field.

Service Description

  • We provide services for adults with issues concerning relationships, circumstances or mental health.
  • Many of these services are for people who function well in many aspects of their life, but need help in a particular area.
  • We also provide specialist services for people with serious and enduring difficulties with mental health.

Treatment Philosophy

Our outpatient services are wide ranging and delivered in a variety of ways. However, they share underpinning principles:

  • We work with people to enable them to take responsibility for themselves and their circumstances, and to achieve significant and lasting change.
  • Agreeing on a plan of treatment is a joint process between the patient and the therapist.
  • We listen carefully and skilfully to what people want and need help with, and how they want that help to be delivered. We see our patients as people of resource and expertise in what will help them.
  • We offer a treatment plan based our knowledge and skills as clinicians, our assessment of the individual’s unique needs and prior experience of treatment, our evaluation of what does and doesn’t work in practice, and our professional appraisal of current research, best practice and guidelines.
  • Addressing difficulties in feelings, thoughts and relationships can often be a challenging process. Complex problems often need slower, longer approaches and support. We work hard to support people in seeing this process through.
  • We provide services to people able to be responsible for themselves, and look after themselves adequately in their daily lives between appointments. Where urgent or emergency treatment is needed we suggest people go directly to their GP, local mental health services or an Accident and Emergency department.

Client Groups

  • Any adult wanting to access counselling, psychotherapy, psychology or psychiatry, able to fund themselves or with other funding.
  • Employees of employers willing to fund employee support (EAP).
  • Health care professionals and others in caring and public sector professions, with difficulty accessing support through public services.
  • People with mental health difficulties with difficulty accessing support through public services.
