About Dr Kate Barker
I am a Clinical Psychologist and work at the Tuke Centre, alongside my in-patient work at The Retreat. I completed my doctorate in Psychology in Staffordshire and moved to Yorkshire to work at The Retreat because of the values and ethos that the organisation is based upon.
Like most psychologists, I draw on a range of approaches and have completed additional training in Compassion Focussed therapy, group work and Dialectical Behavioural therapy. My experiences of how effective DBT is for individuals who are struggling with self-defeating coping strategies led me to the DBT team here at the Tuke centre and to the role of clinical lead for the DBT team.
I see clients individually within the DBT service and am responsible for leading the development of the service. Alongside my direct clinical work, I am involved in delivering training and offering supervision to other psychologists.
