About Dr Kirsty Kennedy
I am a clinical psychologist with many years NHS experience in both mental health and acute medical settings as well as a dual qualification as a gestalt psychotherapist. Within the NHS I worked in specialist older people’s mental health services in both Newcastle and York, developing an interest in the interface between cognitive impairment and emotional experience. Most recently I was a consultant clinical psychologist within the Medical Psychology services in South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust, taking the lead role in cancer, specialist palliative care and specialist weight management services.
I now work in full time independent practice alongside being a visiting lecturer at Teesside University for the Doctor of Clinical Psychology Course and IAPT modules. Always with a thorough relational grounding, I specialise in using Schema Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (third wave Cognitive Behaviour Therapy).
